Meeting Reports

Graham's meeting reports acquired a cult following which Dave will be hard pressed to match. You'll find the latest reports here.

Of course, you really have to attend the meetings to appreciate the subtleties, but I'm afraid that due to the increase in the numbers of Members there is now a Waiting List to join.

Saturday 19th February '05 | Posted by Dave Westall at 22:03 on 02 Mar 2005

Our latest module (a scenic fiddle yard with Loco Shed, working Turntable, Sidings and a Works building) made its debut at the Biggleswade Show on the 12th February. Our last meeting was on the 19th February but after deciding to limit the size of the Group at the previous meeting it was ironic that that only 5 members were able to be at this one. As usual the next modules and future plans were the topic of discussion but with so few members being there no decisions were made – except the decision not to make any decisions!
We would like to thank Andy and Sheila for their hospitality and the ‘doggy bags’.

15th January '05 | Posted by Dave Westall at 20:18 on 23 Jan 2005

The Group met at Emrys Hopkins’ home on the 15th January when we discussed trees and buildings for the new Works Module. Various items of Rolling Stock were checked for clearance ready to fix the buildings in place.
Also discussed was the near 100% increase in membership since July and whether the group could still be accommodated in Members homes. After a lively debate covering various options as to alternative venues, the pros and cons of homes versus hired rooms it was decided to limit the size of the Group to the present number and to continue to meet in our homes. A waiting list will be created should anybody else wish to join the Group until numbers drop – or we all buy larger homes!
We would like to thank Emrys for his hospitality and the lovely spread.

27th November '04 | Posted by Dave Westall at 21:40 on 30 Nov 2004

Former and present members of the group gathered at Dave & Pat Westall’s on the 27th November to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Norfolk 009 Group. Dave Grassing brought a video showing the Mk. 1 modules and 3 of the present Mk. 2 modules were put up to operate, including the new Works module on it’s first running session.

We welcomed new member Chris Hart, who has just moved to Norfolk, and re-joining members Dave & Midge Grassing.

Pat made a special cake for the occasion in the shape of a locomotive. Fortunately it wasn’t made to 009 scale so after Graham Watling, the Groups co-founder along with the Late Ray Fothergill, had cut the cake there was more than enough for everybody.

The next meetings are January 15th at Emrys Hopkins’s and February 19th at Andy McMahon’s. For details contact me on 01362-697162 (Evenings) or email d.westall@tiscali.co.uk

9th October '04 | Posted by Dave Westall at 20:09 on 16 Oct 2004

7 members met at Graham Mann’s home for our October meeting. The new fiddle yard module was there for members to see the progress being made. Lengthy discussions took place with regards to stock handling, electrical wiring and possible scenics. Ways of improving the other existing modules were also discussed. A delicious spread was provided and enjoyed by all. Thank you Doreen & Graham.
The next meetings are November 27th at Dave and Patricia Westall’s and January 15th at Emrys Hopkins. For details contact me on 01362-697162 (Evenings) or email d.westall@tiscali.co.uk

There wasn't a meeting this month, but the Group with 5 modules won 'Favourite Layout' at the Grantham Show and also appeared at the Enfield Show with 3 modules.
